Lisa Hurst - Principal Bassoon
Lisa began playing the bassoon at age twelve, when she enrolled in the music program at École secondaire Pierre-Laporte, in Montreal. She really didn’t know what she was getting herself into; she had never seen a bassoon before in her life! After completing high school, Lisa decided to take a break from classical music and began studying liberal arts. However, she was soon drawn back to her roots and played for various student orchestras in Montreal (Vanier College, UQÀM, Concordia).
In 2001, she graduated from l’Université du Québec à Montréal (UQÀM) with a Bachelor of Music specializing in Music Therapy. Lisa studied the bassoon with Andrée Lehoux , Alain Thibault as well as Gerald Corey, former principal bassoonist for the National Arts Center Orchestra.
In 2006, she completed a Master’s of Health Science in Speech-Language Pathology. Since moving to Gatineau, she has played with the Kanata Symphony Orchestra and the Ottawa Chamber Orchestra. In 2012, she joined the Parkdale Orchestra. In her spare time, Lisa enjoys hiking with her dog DJ.
